Three Mile Dam is located in the Alpine area, about 10km from Kiandra on the Mount Selwyn Road, or 14 km from the nearest facilities at Cabramurra. It is open to fishing all year round, however the road is often not accessible in the winter months, as the area is often under complete snow cover. All forms of fishing are permitted, however flyfishing early and late season is the most productive. Lure fishing with small Celtas also account for fish in this beautiful little lake. It does hold all breeds of trout, though mainly browns. Canoes are permitted, but powerboats are not. Three Mile Dam is worth a cast if you are in the area for fishing in the nearby Eucumbene River, or sightseeing in the old abandoned gold town of Kiandra. There is a free camping ground that provides composting toilets and picnic benches. You will need to bring your own firewood and water. There is no need to book ahead. As one of the highest elevation dams, extreme weather can be experienced at anytime of year. There is no mobile phone coverage and Adaminaby is the closest town for supplies. |
