The Swampy Plains River begins it’s run when it leaves the Khancoban Pondage Dam Wall before eventually running into the Upper Murray River at Corryong. It is a fantastic fishery that is best accessed at the Geehi Hut Camping Ground which is located 44km from Thredbo Village, or 31 km form Khancoban. The river holds good numbers of both brown and rainbow trout up to a kilo, but bigger specimens to 3kg do reside here! The river is well known for it’s spectactular insect hatches. The Swampy River is a declared blue ribbon water and as such a bag limit of two fish per day exists.
The Camping Ground at Geehi provides an outstanding and cheap (free) accommodation option. There are toilets, picnic tables, wood fireplaces (bring your own wood) and bins. The Alpine ranges surround the site providing fantastic photography at all time of the year. Other accommodation options are available at either Khancoban, or Thredbo Village.
